Born in Hong Kong, Edmund graduated with MChem (First Class Honors) at University of Oxford in 2016 and obtained his PhD in Chemistry at Northwestern University in 2022. During graduate school, he discovered his passion for mentoring students and his love for supramolecular chemistry. His thesis research with Prof. Chad Mirkin spanned two areas: the synthesis of stimuli-responsive metal complexes and the development of molecule-DNA conjugates as a new type of bonding element in nanoparticle assemblies. To gain expertise in polymer chemistry, he then did a postdoc with Prof. Jeremiah Johnson at MIT. There, Edmund developed a method for storing DNA and DNA-based data in degradable polymer network. 

Edmund loves imagining and making molecules, and he hopes to help his students appreciate the beauty of organic chemistry. In Fall 2024, he will start as Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry at Pepperdine University. In addition to teaching organic chemistry, he will be leading an undergraduate-centric lab that develops bio-inspired polymers. 

Outside of work, Edmund loves spending time with his wife and his daughters, playing board games, watching competitive sports, and is an amateur photographer.
