1/16/25: Vera Syers '26 has been awarded Spring 2025 Faculty-Student Mentorship award to design monomers for making DNA-like polymer, and to develop activities for teaching CHEM 310 students how to read primary literature. Congratulations!
12/20/24: The Cheng group and our students (Bridget Swansen '26 and Isaiah Chung '25) have been awarded Spring 2025 Academic Year Undergraduate Research Initiative (AYURI), for the project on developing new surfactants for emulsion polymerization. Congratulations!
12/10/24: Our poster abstract for ACS Spring 2025 has been accepted! Rakel Ang '25, Chris Ghim '26, Vera Syers '26 and myself will be presenting a poster in DivCHED on our progress in developing nucleoside-based monomers. See you in San Diego!
11/23/24: The Cheng group attended our very first conference. Every member presented and contributed significantly for our two posters at Southern California Conference of Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) 2024. Well done!
9/26/24: Unboxing our Zetasizer/DLS instrument. It feels amazing when you find a second-hand equipment with great conditions!
9/6/24: The very first Cheng group photo! Thank you Dr. Matthew Joyner for the photo and the idea for picking your favorite element. Can you identify each of our favorite elements?
9/3/24: Every single Cheng group students has been so keen and ready-to-go! In less than one week, we have set up our very first reactions for two different projects, run our first TLC, and collected our first NMR spectrum and mass spectrum (with generous help from colleague Dr. Matthew Joyner). How exciting!
8/29/24: The Cheng group and our students (Rakel Ang '25 and Chris Ghim '26) have been awarded Fall 2024 Academic Year Undergraduate Research Initiative (AYURI), for the project Synthesizing Metal-Chelating, DNA-Like Polymers. Congratulations!
8/28/24: Bridget Swansen '26 has been awarded Fall 2024 Faculty-Student Mentorship award to develop stimuli-responsive polymer colloids, and to design organic chemistry (CHEM 310) classroom activities that incorporate the use of generative AI. Congratulations!
8/13/24: The Cheng group welcomes the very first group of research students: Bridget, Chris, Isaiah, Rakel, and Vera! Check out the People page to learn more about these amazing individuals.
8/1/24: Edmund officially joins a cohort of 25 new faculty at Pepperdine University.
